Application Engineer, Transformers

The Transformer Application Engineer reports to the Manager of Application Engineering and is responsible for the technical review and support of transformer and oil-filled shunt reactor orders from the bid stage thru post-completion customer field support. The transformer application engineer provides US-based support to sales, project management, design, transportation, installation, commissioning and field service teams as well as the customer.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bidding Stage
  • Review Transformer and Oil-Filled Shunt Reactor design packages from bid team and compare with customer specifications to ensure technical requirements and standards are met.
  • Identify clarifications and deviations to customer specification.
  • Support sales on technical discussions with customer.
  • Identify and recommend any design changes to improve competitiveness and ensure consistency of designs for each customer.
Design and Factory Testing
  • Liaison between factory design engineers and customers during design stage of Transformers and Oil-Filled Shunt Reactors.
  • Participate in Design Reviews with customers, consultants, and design engineers.
  • Review and analysis of factory test reports for transformers and Oil-Filled Shunt Reactors and ensure customer test requirements and industry standards are met.
  • Drawing, BOM, Design documents, and test plan review.
  • Support seismic evaluation report studies if required and coordinate with customer, design engineer and consultant.
  • Key role in analysis of Root Cause failures and Lessons Learned Reports.
Installation and Commissioning
  • Interface with other departments (Transportation, Project Management, Sales, and Installation) in order to meet project completion. Provide technical guidance to other departments.
  • Review and analysis of field test reports for transformers and Oil-Filled Shunt Reactors and ensure site test requirements are met.
Customer Support
  • Interface with subcomponent vendors for resolution of technical problems (including bushings, gauges, electronic monitoring equipment).
  • Remote field support for technical issues at site before and after energization.
Miscellaneous
  • Review and update Operation and Maintenance manuals for Transformer and Oil-Filled Shunt Reactors as required.
  • Provide basic transformer training to junior staff and customers when required.
  • Participate in preparation of technical papers and articles for publication in professional society journals and trade magazines; and for presentation at professional society meetings, industry conferences and trade exhibitions.
  • Represent the company at IEEE and international standards meetings, participate in standards development, and report back on upcoming industry trends.
  • Provide a unified point of contact and customer technical expertise for products being designed and manufactured across multiple factories in different countries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 2-4 years' experience in design, manufacturing, or quality engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Developed analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills, emphasizing knowledge of MS Office products and engineering analysis related programs such as finite element analysis.
  • Experience in the Transmission, Distribution, or Power Generation industry strongly desired.


DESIRED:

  • Experience using Autocad or other comparable design tools.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings including electrical schematics, one & three-lines, etc.
  • Experience using engineering analysis related programs such as finite element analysis.

The Technical Sales Manager - Transformers reports to the Transformer Product Line Manager and is responsible for support of day-to-day commercial operations as well as business planning within the HICO transformer product offerings. The Technical Sales Manager is a key contributor to our Sales Team and their primary focus will be on HICO Transformer products and may also involve other HICO offered equipment. The Technical Sales Manager actively supports sales from a technical aspect to assist with the selling of technical products and services. A strong track record of being able to technologically explain the benefits of our offering and how it is best suited to meet or exceed our clients needs is essential. The Technical Sales Manager’s responsibilities include maintaining extensive knowledge of transformer parts, functions, and processes and assisting to close sales where technical expertise may be required. This role will have visibility into and responsibility in production space allocations and other critical tasks required to manage the product lines effectiveness. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and further developing relationships across the territory including the local sales representative network, customers, and internal teams with the ultimate goal of growing sales revenue and profitability. An entrepreneurial spirit and dynamic personality will succeed in this fast-paced environment collaborating with several internal and external divisions to deliver problem solving solutions to the power industry.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical Sales management including supporting all territory managers and sales team for Transformer and Transformer integrated offerings.
  • Driving the sales team through strong selling practices to include: relationship development, time management, effective communication, product knowledge, and technical capabilities.
  • Preparing and developing technical proposals that are commercially competitive and explaining HICO's products and services to customers on a per project basis.
  • Discussing equipment needs and system requirements with customers and engineers.
  • Engagement and relationship building with customers along with the outside sales team and product line teams.
  • Supporting RFQs, RFIs, Proposal preparation and delivery from a techno-functional standpoint (Most technically competitive solution).
  • Building your own brand and identity within the power industry and our clientele. Entrepreneurial spirit is required to succeed in this role and at HICO.
  • Supporting administration of proposal queue and production slot management.
  • Closely collaborating with sales team for real-time delivery capabilities.

  • Training and mentoring junior members of the sales team, sharing knowledge and expertise to enable their success.
  • Generating accurate forecasting reports and pipeline data to support decision making.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering. Other degrees may be acceptable with Power Industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of similar experience in Sales and Technology within the Power Industry.
  • Strong technical background with electrical systems and ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and sales skills.
  • The ability to relate technical information to non-technical customers.
  • Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.

The Purchasing Analyst will report to the Purchasing Manager. Support the HICO procurement analyst and project managers in the purchasing of parts and equipment for EPC and product execution projects.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core Responsibilities
  • Supporting HICO procurement analyst and project managers in purchasing parts and equipment for EPC and product execution projects.
  • Creating and managing the RFQ process to ensure purchasing function aligns with project managers timeline and budget.
  • Developing into the liaison between subcontractor/supplier and HICO project management and procurement teams.
